ONE 150x150 News MediaThe Observer News Enterprise- Publishing Catawba County news since 1879, The O-N-E provides local news and sports coverage for Newton, Conover, Maiden Claremont and Catawba. The Newton-based newspaper printing operation also produces regular feature publications, including Profile, an annual Catawba County Fact Book, and Outlook, the weekly “good news” arts and entertainment newspaper, which is distributed countywide.

Radio Station-
WHKY Radio (AM 1290) is a 50,000 watt station broadcasting a News & TalkRadio Format and serves the Greater Hickory (NC) Metro.

TV Channel- 7-WHKY-DTV is a Independent station serving the Charlotte TV Market (DMA # 24) broadcasting in a Standard Definition Digtial TV format on 14.1. This is Channel 7 on local Charter cable.

Both were the first stations in Hickory, NC and between Charlotte and Asheville, NC at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Founded in 1939 by Edmund S. Long the stations are still locally owned and operated by the Long Family as Long Communications, LLC.
