DSC 0099 407x271 Student Reaches Finalist Status In Business Simulation ChallengeLenoir-Rhyne University student Daishi Miyazaki has reached CEO potential as a finalist in the 2011 Fall Foundation® Business Simulation Challenge – an international competition with entrants from more than 280 universities on five continents.

The Foundation® Business Simulation Challenge is a global online competition held in the spring and fall semester each year. Capsim, a global leader in developing and delivering business simulations, which prepares students to run profitable businesses, hosts the competition.

Daishi first used a simulation in his Strategic Management class taught by Dr. Craig Schreiber. Daishi said he gained “valuable hands-on experience in learning the fundamentals of running a business,” through the simulation. “This was the best way of learning how each decision can alter business strategy and implementation. I enjoyed the competitive nature of the Challenge and was highly motivated to succeed.”

Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Daishi has been living in Hickory since 1999. He is a junior majoring in Professional Organizational Development in the Lenoir-Rhyne University School of Business and plans on building a career in international business overseas. “I have been extremely happy with the level of learning and opportunities to expand my knowledge,” he said, “The quality of professors and resources are outstanding.” He contributes his success to Dr. Schreiber for his in-depth coursework, lectures, and helpfulness in classes.

Brendan Langen, Capsim’s Challenge Coordinator, said: “The competition finalists may still be at a university, but they have already learned what it takes to be able to balance a company’s operational, financial, and sales goals under pressure. The Challenge gives business students the chance to pit their business skills against top competition around the world and see if they have what it takes to compete in an intense, time constrained management experience.”

The annual competition is open to all students who have used a Capsim business simulation in a university course.
